Nephrology & Dialysis

The Nephrology Department provides comprehensive health care for patients with different types of renal (kidney) diseases. Acute and chronic renal diseases and renal problems due to diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stone disease, infections, hereditary illnesses and poisons are diagnosed and managed. Emerging science, new technology, and improvements in diagnostics and patient care have enabled the department to treat kidney and renal disease more successfully.

The clinical program includes hemodialysis, hemofiltration, interventional nephrology, outpatient hemodialysis and in-patient services. The in-patient services are complemented by a vigorous out-patient program. These include clinics for hypertension, inherited kidney diseases, kidney stones, nephritis and vasculitis, early renal failure.

The Nephrology Center at the Olive Sacred Hearts Hospital offers a wide range of services to diagnose and treat kidney diseases. It is fully equipped with the latest medical technologies and staffed with experienced nephrologists and haemodialysis nurses with extensive experience in their respective fields. Our nephrologists’ areas of expertise include hypertension and kidney diseases, continuous renal replacement therapy and renal prevention strategies among many others.

Outpatient Clinic

Here, a variety of patients with medical kidney diseases are treated everyday. Our nephrologists are experienced and utilize many advanced equipment and techniques in their everyday clinical care. They also perform percutaneous kidney biopsy under ultrasound or CT guidance in order to diagnose various kidney diseases.

Dialysis Clinic

The clinic provides a full range of services to patients with end-stage renal disease. These services include in-patient nephrology services and chronic dialysis services. The clinic is equipped with 5 modern HD machines and a CRRT machine used for continuous renal replacement therapy.

Dialysis Services provides emergency hemodialysis or scheduled hemodyalisis sessions, 3 times per week, 4 hours per session for the following conditions:

  • Acute renal failure.
  • End-stage renal failure patient requiring hospitalization.
  • Other conditions deemed eligible by the Nephrologist.

This service must be ordered by an attending Nephrologist. Written physician orders and consent for hemodialysis must be on the chart prior to treatment.

Dialysis is performed by and is the responsibility of the Dialysis Services nurse. Primary patient care is the responsibility of the hospital nursing staff. A Dialysis Flow sheet will be provided and maintained by the dialysis nurse for the patient medical record.

Dialysis Services must be notified no later than one (1) hour prior to reporting time of changes or cancellations in treatment.
